Interviews, CCC meetings and board prep are all on the calendar. This month, find a faster way to search the Criteria for Excellence, a reminder to keep applicants informed, board prep support for your residents and an outside perspective on your CCC process.
The Criteria for Excellence is now searchable online.
The 183-page PDF is now a searchable online resource, so you can go straight to the guidance you need. When time is tight, start with your most pressing needs, then follow the links in each section to related topics and resources.
RSII Interview Guidelines recommend letting applicants know their status by Dec. 1. Timely updates reduce uncertainty for applicants and help your program manage its waitlist. Based on 2025 Match data, about 80% of interview offers were extended by Dec. 1.
ERAS and Thalamus bulk email tools make it easy to notify applicants who remain under consideration or won’t receive an interview invitation.
Your residents’ exam success reflects your program’s success.
Helping your residents pass the boards is a big responsibility. The AAFP is here to assist you. Supplement their prep with the new Board Review Online, Edition 17. Your residents get valuable board prep. Your program gets special pricing and a stronger foundation for board success.

Clinical Competency Committee (CCC) meetings are approaching, which makes now a good time to review how your program approaches resident assessment and evaluation.
CCCs play a critical role in evaluating resident progress, but programs often run into challenges with:
Faculty time
Documentation
Evaluation consistency
Interpreting assessment data

AAFP Leads Collaborative Advocacy on H-1B Visa Policy
The AAFP recently led a joint advocacy effort responding to a Department of Homeland Security proposed rule that would impose a $103,265 fee on certain H-1B petitions. Working with physician, medical specialty, health care and patient-access organizations, the AAFP and nearly 50 other organizations urged DHS to recognize physicians, dentists and trainees as serving the national interest and to establish a permanent exemption from H-1B-related fees and restrictions. The collaboration built on ongoing AAFP-led advocacy to reduce immigration barriers that can make it harder to recruit and retain internationally trained physicians, particularly in communities facing workforce shortages.
