AAFP Pushes Back on Harmful PSLF Rule Despite strong opposition, the Department of Education has finalized a Public Service Loan Forgiveness rule—effective July 1, 2026—that puts loan relief and the primary care workforce at risk.
The AAFP called for the rule’s withdrawal, warned of its impact on the physician pipeline and is now pursuing next steps, including sustained advocacy and filing amicus briefs in support of anticipated legal challenges.
Take action: Use our Speak Out tool to urge your Congress members to pass legislation that protects the integrity of the PSLF program.
