Consultants Corner

Alan Douglass, MD, FAAFP

A long-standing and well-regarded residency program experienced two consecutive unanticipated poor Match outcomes along with several faculty departures.

Alan Douglass, MD, FAAFP, an RPS consultant, conducted a two-day on-site assessment and interviewed program leadership, faculty, residents and staff.

The evaluation revealed several contributing factors, including:

  • Organizational shifts affecting program identity
  • Leadership transitions
  • Resident dissatisfaction with clinic operations
  • Concerns about faculty compensation and work expectations

Dr. Douglass provided a set of strategic recommendations that were implemented over the following year, resulting in improved Match outcomes and stronger faculty retention.
